Iran is the third member of the axis of evil along with Russia and China. Over the last almost 50 years this criminal extremist theocracy has not only subjugated its own people, but has supported terrorist groups including Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis and Islamic Jihad in the Middle East and around the world. These groups have engaged in horrific acts of violence against innocent men, women and children globally. Iran has also threatened the very existence of the state of Israel and “death to America”. With Iran’s continuing covert efforts to develop a nuclear weapon coming close to becoming reality their imminent threats had to be taken seriously.
Again, like it has done in the past, the United States stepped up, with Israel, to end this existential threat to millions of people. The United States has not only put its money and military resources on the line, but also its most precious assets - its soldiers. The lives of these brave men and women are again at risk to protect freedom and democracy of many other people in many countries around the world.
We support the United States efforts to put an end the criminal extremist regime in Iran, eliminate its weapons, its nuclear bomb program and put an end to their support of global terrorism.
The Canadians and Australians expressed their support for the operation against Iran on day one. Earlier today the United Kingdom, France and Germany expressed support, including military if necessary. Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO issued a similar statement of support. Many other countries in the Middle East and around the world have also expressed statements of support.
Romania is the host of an Aegis Ashore facility and other United States military assets. Romania has a special transatlantic relationship with the United States and benefits from substantial American economic investments. Romania has no better friend than the people of the United States.
Romania has been silent so far on the ongoing United States efforts to liberate the people of Iran and put an end to its criminal regime. We hope Romania, as one of America’s strategic partners, joins the many other countries that have already announced their support for this bold and courageous American undertaking.
God bless the United States and the brave men and women of its armed forces.
